Intensive Outpatient Program

young woman beginning an intensive outpatient programWhen your teenager needs mental health treatment, you will face several important decisions, including the level of care required. Residential or inpatient treatment programs are often ideal. However, inpatient treatment is not always necessary. Outpatient mental health treatment is sometimes insufficient to meet your child’s needs. For teens aged 12-17 who do not require 24-hour supervision, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) is one of the adolescent treatment programs in Idaho.

At Imagine Nampa, our IOP offers structured and individualized care for teenagers who are leaving a higher level of care or need more support than outpatient mental health treatment. Our IOP allows your child to receive treatment and support without falling behind in school. They have access to family support because they are at home on nights and weekends. Contact us at 888.503.4604 to learn more about our IOP for your teen.

Can Your Teen Benefit from an Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program?

An adolescent intensive outpatient program is a treatment option that offers highly structured mental health treatment for a few hours per day, multiple days per week. Patients are at home on nights and weekends. At Imagine Nampa, our IOP for teens ages 12-17 offers comprehensive, integrated mental health treatment for various mental health and co-occurring disorders. Our IOP runs 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for six hours per day.

If your teenager’s mental health symptoms impair their daily functioning or make life feel unmanageable, our IOP provides the care your child and family need. An IOP for teens benefits those who exhibit one or more of the following:

  • Changes in sleeping or eating patterns
  • Difficulties at school or refusal to attend school
  • Persistent feelings of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, or irritability
  • Thinking of hurting yourself or others
  • Antisocial behavior or isolation
  • Loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed

An IOP for teens also benefits those who are stepping down from an inpatient or partial hospitalization program (PHP). These people are not ready to reintegrate fully into daily life or need more support than outpatient treatment.

What to Expect from Our Intensive Outpatient Program in Nampa, ID

Imagine Nampa offers a full-day intensive outpatient program in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Teens struggling with mental health disorders frequently exhibit behavioral issues and often turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with their emotional pain. Our comprehensive, integrated approach to treatment addresses co-occurring disorders. Our caring, experienced interdisciplinary treatment team delivers compassionate, effective, evidence-based treatment.

During the intake process, treatment team members work with you and your teen to identify their needs and goals for treatment to develop an individualized treatment plan. Based on your child’s needs, their treatment plan might include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma therapy
  • Mindfulness and meditation
  • Interpersonal therapy
  • Art, music, or pet therapy
  • Teen relationship counseling

Educational programming, therapy (individual, group, family), and therapeutic activities help patients develop a thorough understanding of their symptoms and identify and address the causes and effects of mental health disorders. Patients meet with the center’s psychiatrist a minimum of twice weekly to monitor psychiatric needs and medication management. Crisis intervention and on-site nursing care are also available.
